British Studies Center Held Symposium on Brexit

On 24th April 2018, a symposium on Brexit was held at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) by British and Irish studies centers of the School of English and International Studies (SEIS), BFSU. Robert Geyer, Professor from the School of Philosophy, Politics and Religion, and Coordinator of International Cooperation at Lancaster University, and Senior Lecturer Dr. Xu Lu from the School of Law, BFSU, were invited to deliver speeches. Professor Geyer gave a talk entitled Where are we now with Brexit? --Exploring its impact on the EU and China from the perspective of complexity theory. In his speech, he analyzed Brexit with complexity theory, focusing on its causes, its impact on UK politics and economy, and on UK-China and UK-US relations. Dr. Xu presented a speech on the impact of Brexit on the British law by highlighting the differences between Civil Law and Common Law. Professor Wang Zhanpeng, Vice Dean of SEIS and Director of British Studies Center, hosted the Symposium. Faculty members, Ph.D. students and postgraduate students from both British and Irish studies centers participated in it. Later, Professor Wang held discussions with the Lancaster delegation on cooperation between the two universities.
