British Studies Center, together with the British Embassy, the British Branch of Chinese Association for European Studies, Social Science Academic Press, World Affairs Press, etc., held the book launch for two latest academic achievements: Development Report of the United Kingdom (2010-1013) (Editor-in-chief: Wang Zhanpeng) and Analysis on the Evolution of The United Kingdom and Its International Status (Editor-in-chief: Wang Zhanpeng, Liu Fei). The two books are in sequence published by Social Science Academic Press and World Affairs Press respectively in 2013.
Among those who attended the book launch included: deputy ambassador Andrew Key, counselor Han Ruifen from the British Embassy, editor in chief Yang Qun of the Social Sciences Academic Press , as well as more than 40 experts and scholars from the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee , the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Compilation and Translation Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Institute of International Studies, Nankai University, Shanghai International Studies University, China Foreign Affairs University, and British Studies Center of Beijing Foreign Studies University.
Deputy ambassador Andrew Key introduced British Prime Minister David Cameron’s latest trip to China in his speech and spoke highly of the active role played by British Studies Centre of BFSU in promoting cultural and educational exchanges and mutual understanding. Professor Wang Zhanpeng from the British Studies Center made an introduction regarding the compilation and publication of the two books. Professor Chen Xiaolv from Nanjing University analyzed the experience that can be drawn from Britain from a historical development perspective. Experts at the conference engaged actively in a heated discussion concerning the development of British Studies, Sino- U.K. relations and strengthening cooperation home and abroad.
These two books represent the fruitful results of national and area studies centers of Beijing Foreign Studies University under the administration of China’s ministry of education. Britain’s Development Report 2010-2013 is the first of its sort in China. With its comprehensive information on U.K.’s development, it has attracted widespread attention from domestic media. Renmin Net, Xinhua Net, China Social Science Newspaper and other media groups have all reported the publishing of this book.
