Undertaken by the center for British and Commonwealth studies at Nanjing University (NJU), and hosted by the British Studies Centre at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), the school of history at NJU, the British studies branch of Chinese association for European studies (CAES), British Consulate-General Shanghai, and the British studies center at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), the International Academic Symposium on British History was held at NJU on Sep. 20, 2013.
The symposium attracted more than 80 senior experts and renowned scholars from prestigious universities and research institutes at home and abroad, including Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), NJU, Henan University (HENU), Renmin University of China (RUC), Sichuan University (SCU), Northeast Normal University (NENU), Shandong University (SDU), BFSU, SISU, University of London, University of Oxford, University of Edinburgh, University of Sussex, and University of Birmingham. During the two-day session, scholars from the UK and China exchanged thoughts on the British sea power, the British colonial history, hotspot issues in the British hisroty, and contemporary British research, strengthening exchanges and deepening cooperation between the UK and China on the researsh into British history.
Professors (Wang Zhanpeng, Shi Tongyun, Yang Guangjie, etc.) and doctoral students from the British studies center attended the symposium and read out some theses, including “The Constitutional Reform of the Cameron Government and the Development of Regional Autonomy”, “The Development of British Film Industry and Its Significance for China” and “The Evolution of the Conservative Party’s Policy Towards Europe from 1997 to 2010”.
