The Society of British Studies at Chinese Association for European Studies held its seventh annual conference at Beijing Foreign Studies University on November 16 through 17.
The two-day academic event was jointly organized by the Society of British Studies, BFSU, and British Embassy in Beijing, and hosted by British Research Center at BFSU School of English and International Studies. The seminar, “Britain’s Evolving Role in the World: Change and Continuity” was held concurrently.
More than 70 scholars at home and abroad participated in the seminar. In the context of structural transformation of international forces, the international financial crisis, and European sovereign debt crisis since the early of 21st century, the conference, with the theme of the historical evolution of the role of Britain in the world and its development, focused on new problems, new trends, new characteristics in British internal and external policies involved in varied areas of social and cultural developments. Moreover, the influence of this change and the corresponding strategies China can form were discussed. The teachers, visiting scholars, and graduate students based at BFSU British Research Center presented ten theses.
Wang Zhanpeng, one of the keynote speakers from BFSU British Studies Center delivered a speech entitled “An research project- the evolution of British influence in the context of international financial crisis“. The British Studies Center will start to compile the conference dissertations, based on its research subject on British influence in the context of international financial crisis.
