On May 6, 2016, the Fourth EU Language & Culture Festival, together with a forum on United in Diversity: EU and Its Member States in Regional Integration, was opened in the Conference Hall of the Arabic Department, BFSU. Hans Dietmar Schweisgut EU Ambassador to China, Ma Zhengang member of Foreign Policy Advisory Committee of China Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former Chinese Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Feng Zhongping Vice Director of China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, and Yan Guohua, Vice President of BFSU attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Jin Limin, Director of the Dean's Office, BFSU.
Vice President Yan Guohua said that the EU Language & Culture Festival has gained more and more influence nationwide which is held in BFSU every year and he praised the achievements made by the regional studies centers in BFSU on the EU and its member states. In his keynote speech, Hans Dietmar Schweisgut appreciated BFSU’s efforts in holding this festival for four years and congratulated the award-winning students for their excellent work in EU researches. Professor Wang Zhanpeng, Vice Dean of the School of English and International Studies and Director of the British Studies Centre, delivered a speech on the development and trend of China-EU relations from the perspectives of politics, economy and culture. The EU Festival was co-sponsored by the Dean’s Office, School of English and International Studies, School of European Languages and Culture, Department of German, Department of French, Department of Spanish and Portuguese, and the British Studies Center, all from Beijing Foreign Studies University.
