Between 25th and 27th September 2014, the Eighth Annual Session of British Studies Branch of Chinese Association of European Studies (CAES) was held in Changsha University of Science and Technology. It was jointly sponsored by the British Studies Branch of CAES, British Studies Centers of Shanghai International Studies University and Beijing Foreign Studies University, the Department of History, Nanjing University and Academy of Social Sciences of Hunan Province. The meeting was organized by Changsha Municipal Government and the International Studies Centre of Hunan Academy of Social Sciences. He Jihua, Vice Mayor of Changsha, Kate Harrison, counsellor of British Embassy in Beijing, Luo Boyang, Vice Chairman of Hunan Academy of Social Sciences and Liu Fei, Vice Chairman of British Studies Branch of CAES delivered speeches respectively at the opening ceremony.
Six faculty members and doctoral students from BFSU British Studies Centre, including Professor Wang Zhanpeng, Professor Shi Tongyun, and Professor Shen Yi, presented their papers at the session. Their topics ranged from historical evolution of British working class, British creative industries to UK party politics and Sino-UK cultural exchanges. Richard Sanders, Professor of UK Northampton University and visiting professor of BFSU British Studies Centre made a keynote speech about the Scottish Referendum. In the council meeting of the British Studies Research Branch of CAES, Professor Wang Zhanpeng was elected Vice Chairman.
More than 40 experts and scholars from nearly 20 universities and research institutions attended the meeting. They include Institute of European Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, Nanjing University, Peking University, China Foreign Affairs University, Beihang University, Communication University of China and Shandong University, etc.
