On 26 March 2015, Peter Mandler, Professor of Modern Cultural History at the University of Cambridge and President of the Royal Historical Society, gave a talk entitled Britain’s Transition to Mass Education to the students and lecturers of British Studies Centre, BFSU. He said that, in British academia, three different views exist on British transition in education since WWII, namely technocracy, democracy and meritocracy. He pointed out that British transition in education since WWII was the triumph of democracy rather than decline of technocracy and meritocracy. He reviewed the reforms in British secondary and higher education since 1944 and analysed the impact of several educational reports and acts. He also answered questions from the students and faculty about British educational system and the reforms in British secondary education.
Director of BFSU British Studies Centre, Professor Wang Zhanpeng presided over the event. After that, the two professors discussed further cooperation between the two universities.
