author:time:2015-02-15

On 11 February 2015, Professor Wang Zhanpeng, director of BFSU British Studies Centre, made a speech at the School of History, Welsh History and Archaeology of Bangor University, Wales, the United Kingdom, entitled “Devolution in the aftermath of the Scottish referendum: Some observations from Chinese scholars”. Professor Wang first recalled the development of research work by Chinese academia on British ethnic issues, especially the Welsh devolution. Then, he explored prospects for a constitutional settlement for the Welsh devolution, particularly after the General Election 2015 and the impact of Scottish independence referendum on other regions in the UK. Lastly, he discussed the lessons that China might learn from British devolution experience.

In addition, Professor Wang had a round-table discussion with lecturers and students of Bangor University on the issue of Welsh devolution. The event was the first of a series of activities marking the fifth anniversary of the passing-away of Duncan Tanner, Professor of History in the School of Arts and Humanities. Dr Andrew Edwards, dean of school, presided over the seminar.

Professor Wang also visited the Centre for International Educational Exchanges, Law School, Modern Foreign Languages School and the Confucius Institute at Bangor University. He held talks and discussions with them on the function of the Confucius Institute in Sino-Britain humanity exchanges and on expanding students and staff exchanges.
